Cherished — Privacy Policy

Cherished is built to be private. This policy explains what that means in concrete terms.

The short version

• Everything you write in Cherished — notes, key facts, important dates, weekly check-ins, gift ideas, photos — is stored only on your iPhone.
• We don't have a server that receives your data. We can't read your journal because we have no way to access it.
• The only information that leaves your device is what you choose to send: feedback emails to us, and subscription transactions handled by Apple.

Information stored on your device

When you use Cherished, the following is stored locally on your iPhone using iOS's built-in storage system:

• Your partner's name and pronouns
• The love language quiz results, if you completed it
• Journal notes you write
• Key facts you save (sizes, favorites, etc.)
• Important dates you add
• Weekly check-in responses and ratings
• Gift ideas you add or save from suggestions
• Photos you attach to journal notes or gifts
• Your notification preferences and check-in day
• App settings (theme, style, etc.)

This data never leaves your device through Cherished. We don't have a copy. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.

What we do not collect

We do not collect:

• Your name, email, or any personal identifier (unless you contact us)
• Your location
• Your contacts
• Your browsing or search history
• Any analytics about how you use the app
• Any data about your partner

We do not use third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or tracking tools.

Backups and exports

Cherished includes a manual backup feature. When you use it:

• The backup file is created on your device and saved through iOS's standard share sheet (to Files, iCloud Drive, email, or wherever you choose).
• If you save the backup to iCloud Drive or another cloud service, that service has its own privacy policy that applies to the stored file.
• We do not receive or have access to your backup files.

Restoring from a backup is also a local operation — you select a file from your device, and Cherished reads it directly.

Feedback and support

If you use the "Send feedback" feature in Settings:

• Cherished opens your iOS Mail app with a pre-filled message addressed to us.
• You review and send the message yourself; we receive it only when you tap Send.
• The pre-filled message includes the app version, your partner's name (for context if you report a bug), and a timestamp.
• You can edit or delete any part of the message before sending.

If you email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use that information only to respond to you.

In-app purchases (Cherished Plus)

Cherished Plus subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple's App Store. When you subscribe:

• Apple handles the transaction, billing, and renewal. We do not receive your payment information.
• Cherished checks with Apple's StoreKit framework to verify your subscription status. This check is between your device and Apple — we don't run a server in the middle.
• We do not know your name, email, or any other identifying information from your subscription. We only know, on your device, whether the subscription is active.

You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your iPhone's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.

Notifications

If you enable daily prompt reminders or weekly check-in reminders:

• Notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely by iOS using its local notification system.
• No reminder content is sent through our servers (we don't have any).
• iOS controls notification permissions; you can revoke them at any time in Settings → Notifications → Cherished.

Children

Cherished is not designed for or directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us through feedback, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Because Cherished stores your data only on your device, you have full control:

• To see your data: open the app — it's all there.
• To export your data: use the backup feature in Settings.
• To delete your data: use "Erase everything" in Settings → Danger zone, or uninstall the app.
• To delete data you've sent us via feedback email: contact us at the email below and we will delete it.

For users in the European Union, UK, or California: because we do not collect personal data on a server, most data-subject rights (access, portability, erasure) are fulfilled by the local controls described above. For data you've voluntarily sent us by email, contact us to exercise your rights.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and post the new version at the same URL. Material changes will be announced in the app.
